Colt claims hat-trick at Warwick cricket awards

CRICKET: Warwick Hotel Colts star Cameron Peterson rates the 2016-2017 season as the first when he performed consistently with both bat and ball.

"Most seasons, I have bowled well but my batting has let me down,” Peterson said.

Peterson won the Warwick Cricket Association Cricketer of the Year award as judged by the umpires, the Denis Rettke Memorial All Rounder of the Year award based on runs and wickets and the Tom and Margaret Walsh Medal for player of the final.

He isn't afraid to admit lack of patience with the bat had cost him dearly in the past.

"I have scored three centuries in a decade and two of those centuries have been this season,” he said.

"My best innings was my 51 in the grand final as it mattered most. My batting has been the best part of my game this year, we have a lot of young pace bowlers so they needed my batting more.”

Peterson said he was a bit concerned walking to the crease in the A-grade grand final against Maryvale Condamine with his side needing eight runs per over off the final 10 overs to win.

"My plan was to play the first 10 balls and look for ones and twos and then attack, which was when I hit 19 in an over,” he said.

Peterson scored 434 runs and took 17 wickets in the season. Lachlan Gross (Colts) was the Max Thorley Memorial Colt of the Year with 589 runs and won the Michael and Felicity Bourke Trophy for representative player of the year. Carter Bilbrough (Wheatvale) was Des Murphy Fielder of the Year and Sam Waetford (Redbacks) leading wickettaker with 27. Pat Bourke and James Breen won Wanderers tour spots.
