Colts win a semi thriller

IN continuous rain, the Warwick Colts held out a determined USQ side to win their semi-final 3-2 at Toara Park on Friday night.

Warwick started brilliantly with intense early pressure resulting in a corner after Bryce Doro burst through on to a well directed through ball from Matthew Carey.

The ball came loose in the box and Chris Leach scored to give the team the lead in just the second minute. Warwick continued to attack, but the USQ team came back to score in the 22nd minute.

USQ began to win too much ball in the midfield and Mitch Siebenhausen moved into a defensive midfield position with Leach moving out to the right wing and Ethan Cussen into defence.

Soon after, Leach sent a beautifully directed ball from wide on the right to the far post and Alex Beattie knocked it into the goal.

Warwick went into the break 2-1.

The conditions continued to deteriorate and in the 61st minute Jake Reid lost his footing and USQ scored.

Warwick counter attacked and in the 67th minute USQ hand-balled the ball in the penalty area to give Warwick a penalty, which Marty Johnson converted for a 3-2 win.

The Wolves play the preliminary final this weekend.
