Columnist questions whether coach should have gone

HOWZAT with Michael Bourke

SYDNEY Thunder coach Paddy Upton has been shown the door and sacked after his side did not make the BBL semi-finals this year.

The side won four of 10 games and a win in their final pool game would have given them a semi-final position.

Perhaps the first one that should have been moved on from the Thunder was import player Mitchell McCleneghan, who went at a 9.17 economy rate.

Overall the Thunder side was entertaining to watch with Shane Watson and Jos Butler scoring their runs quickly at the top of the batting order.

Sheffield Shield

THE Queensland Sheffield Shield team is putting in a great effort to remain top of the ladder heading into the weekend clash with Victoria.

Mother Theresa said that to keep a lamp burning we have keep putting oil it.

If the oil equates to effort in the saying then this team, Queensland) will be a good chance of hosting the final. Queensland will be hoping that former Australian opening batsman Matthew Renshaw can score a century in the game.

Horse tip

MY HORSE tip for this Saturday is the French import Berdibek in Sydney who will become a better horse as the race distances rise later in the campaign.
