COMMENT: Three crashes is three too many on our roads
IN MY two years as a reporter with the Daily News I've never seen so many crashes in such a short space of time on our roads.
Three collisions in three hours.
Ten in 12 days, including a horrific fatal.
It makes me question what is with the chaos on our roads of late?
The most frightening aspect for me is that every one of these crashes could have been avoided.
Driver error, inattention, whatever the causes may be... every single crash was avoidable and every single one could have ended in a fatality.
Each one could have been another statistic, another family's life torn apart in a twisted wreck of metal and glass.
When you think about how quickly a crash can happen, it dawns on you just how frightening driving on our roads can be.
Ultimately our fate on the roads is not only in our hands, it's also in the hands of the strangers driving towards us and behind us.
I think Warwick and District Road Safety Group chairman Graham Buchner sums it up perfectly, describing how he shudders when he hears about a crash on our roads (page 3).
As reporters we do the very same.
Please drive safely, pay attention and take care on our roads.
