Clubs claim mystery prize

MEMBERS of Wallangarra’s Border Blue Water Fishers Club Inc and Warwick’s Lions Club are grinning as a result of wins in the recent Southern Downs Community Directory Mystery prize promotion.

Community Development officer Gwen Jones was delighted to receive more than 60 listings in the promotion period to the end of July, from community groups and clubs throughout the region.

“The directory is off to a great start, receiving positive feedback and a good sign-up rate in the first month,” Ms Jones said.

“After randomly selecting our north and south winners, it’s heartening that both winning organisations will put their prizes to good use.”

Border Blue Water Fishers Club secretary Don Higgs said the club was a very happy recipient of the prize pack, which they would use to raise funds for the club and upcoming fishing trips.

“Our club was only established in February 2009 and organises salt water fishing trips around the state,” Mr Higgs said.

Warwick Lions Club president Con Lo Giudice was surprised, but thrilled to be a winner for the northern part of the region.

“The club will raffle most of the items at an upcoming fundraising dinner for the Cancer Council’s Daffodil Day, but will retain the Creed and Lang printing gift voucher, which will be a big help to the club,” he said.

Anyone can access the directory by logging on to SDCD, where you can either search for groups that are already listed, or list your group. There is no charge or membership fee to list on the directory.
