Community puts on show of strength
LOCAL community groups joined forces at the weekend to recognise and celebrate what the Rose City has to offer.
Threatening grey skies on Saturday saw lower than expected numbers turn out but those who braved the impending storm were treated to an array of stalls and performances.
The showcase was organised by the Warwick and District Country Music Association to - as the name suggests - showcase Warwick's best community organisations.
Guests were charged a $5 cover fee with all funds raised going to the Warwick Disability Support Group.
Warwick Artists Group member Lyn Ramsay whipped up a painting or two at the event.
Mrs Ramsay rekindled her long-forsaken love of painting after she relocated to Warwick due to trying family circumstances.
She said painting was a lifeline for her when she needed some brightness in her life.
Prior to joining the club 18 months ago, the gifted artist said her experience mainly consisted of eight lessons she took way back in 1982.
But after picking up a paintbrush again she said it all came back to her and she began dabbling with all kinds of mediums.
"I love being in the group and everybody is so kind and helpful," she said.
"We are all learners - none of us are proficient painters - but we all help each other and offer advice."
Mrs Ramsay said the group was always seeking new members. Anyone interested in joining can call Lyn on 0457137088.
