Unpaid bill leads to assault at Killarney Co-op

AGGRAVATION over an unpaid concreting debt led to a physical altercation and ended with two grown men grappling on the ground at the Killarney Co-op.

David Leonard West confronted a man whose daughter and son-in-law owed him money, while shopping at the store on November 26.

The Warwick Magistrates Court yesterday heard the situation quickly escalated and West grabbed the other man's shirt and pushed him.

During the scuffle, both men fell to the ground, to the dismay of witnesses.

Solicitor Carl Settgast told the court his client was owed $17,000 for concreting work he performed for the couple two years earlier.

The victim was described as being the "go-to man" who West had organised the job with, which is why he bore the brunt of the frustration.

The court heard the 56-year-old had no prior criminal history.

West pleaded guilty to once charge of common assault and was fined $350.

No conviction was recorded against him.
