Concussion didn't stop a hard fight in netball grand final

THE Assumption College QISSN team played a strong game in the grand final against St Augustine's College despite losing their on-court captain to a concussion in the first half.

Wing attack Steph Lockhart was knocked out in a collision in the first half of the match played at the Townsville competition today.

Lockhart was taken to hospital and is doing fine now.

But despite the unexpected shake-up, the girls played a goal-for-goal game against their opponents and missed out on the win by one point.

"They were just one goal up on us the girls fought hard and did all the right things,” Assumption coach Anna Hardy said.

But the team still came away from the competition with a positive outlook.

Player Caitlin Skaines was selected for the rising stars team of 10 out of all the players in the carnival.

Sophie Otten was also named Assumptions most valuable player for the carnival, voted in but other teams throughout the matches.

Overall we have had a fantastic week and a great carnival - very competitive netball,” coach Karyn Morrison said.
