Controversial decision downs Rose City boxer
BOXING: Rose City boxer Jake Wyllie went down in a controversial points decision in the Australian Boxing Championships in Adelaide on Wednesday night.
Club member Peter McMahon watched the fight and said the boxer from Warwick lost the first round before convincingly winning the second and third rounds.
"Queensland boxing officials were disappointed with the decision,” he said.
"This week, I was informed that a computer randomly selects the scores from three of the five judges. The scores of the other two judges aren't part of their decision.”
The judges are from five different states.
Wyllie and fellow Rose City boxer Jacko McMahon will remain in Adelaide to support the fellow members of their Queensland team before flying home on Sunday.
The pair have been mentored this week in Adelaide by Joe Goodall, a Queensland heavyweight described in media reports as "the next big thing in Australian boxing”.
