Goals galore in convincing wins

IT was a round of huge wins and defeats in round three of the Warwick Hockey Association A-grade competition at the weekend.

In the men’s competition Scots defeated Harlequins 7-0 thanks largely to two goals by Pat Slattery.

In the other men’s game – and the only close game of the round in women’s and men’s competition – Saints held off 2-0 to a determined Wyverns.

With great support from such players as Steve Farrell and John Creed, Michael Battese scored two goals for Saints.

In the women’s competition Harlequins easily defeated Scots 6-1. Karla Peasnell had a great second game playing for Harlequins and positioned herself well to score two goals.

Wyvern’s women combined well to defeat the under 15s mixed team 8-3. Caitlin Alley was the highest goal scorer for Wyverns, hitting the back of the box three times.

In the last game of the women’s competition Saints dished up a goal-fest, defeating Corinthians 16-0

While the Corinthians did their best to put up a good battle, Sian Hegarty and Dolly Delandre helped Saints to a powerful win.

Reserve grade was played again this week and there is still a call for more numbers.

If you would like to have a game and practise your skills drop down to the hockey fields in Queens Park at 3pm on Saturday.

There is only one more week of competition before the Easter and Warwick Show Holiday breaks.
