Coolum mum just loves adrenalin

KYLIE Stephenson spends much of her time working as a baker or being a wife and mother.

But when she wants to let off steam, the Coolum mum of two teenage kids likes to jump out of planes thousands of metres above the ground.

Kylie made her first skydive with her husband on Valentine’s Day last year and has since completed nine jumps.

On Friday, she was on the verge of tears as she prepared for her first solo jump at the Skysisters skydiving event in Toogoolawah.

And she was no less nervous when she completed her second solo jump yesterday, but said it was all part of the thrill of skydiving.

“When the door opens, you’re like ‘oooh’, the wind rushes in and you feel like you’re going to fall out,” Kylie said.

“It’s just an amazing, amazing adrenalin rush.

“You feel free. It’s like you’re flying – no, you are flying.”

Kylie said she had earned the qualification required to do a solo skydive over four days last week, so she could participate in the annual all-female Skysisters event.

She started working towards her second qualification yesterday and hoped to complete 30 jumps in the next two weeks.

“I’m completing my first two licences and I hope to be doing some fun jumps as well.

“I would like to one day, in the future, represent the country.”

Kylie is one of several hundred women from around the world who have converged on the Ramblers Drop Zone in Toogoolawah for Skysisters.

The all-female skydiving event, which runs until Saturday, will feature glamour fashion jumps, flag and streamer jumps, Lady Bird lingerie jumps and an Easter Bunny jump.

The event is free and open to the public.
