Coolum 'Santa' wheeled his way back to court

THE Coolum "Santa" who gave a woman HIV has appeared at the Maroochydore District Court on his mobility scooter.

But the judge waiting to sentence him was so surprised to find him in court, the matter was adjourned again.

Alick Frank Robinson was due to hear on Thursday, March 2 whether he would be sentenced for grievous bodily harm after pleading guilty to the crime on Monday, February 28.

The case had to be adjourned on the day as the court heard as Mr Robinson, who was diagnosed with HIV in 2007 and suffers from diabetes, was in hospital.

Crown prosecutor Rebecca Marks told the court it appeared Mr Robinson had not been taking his insulin.

There were more concerns about his health with Ms Marks advising the court they wanted to hold Mr Robinson overnight.

The matter was held over to Monday, March 6 for a mention.

Mr Robinson, with his vomit bag, catheter and carer on hand, appeared in court on his mobility scooter for the mention.

His legal aid lawyer, Mr M Dixon told the court no more submissions were to made.

Judge Gary Long said he was "wasn't expecting" Mr Robinson to appear.

He adjourned the case to Wednesday morning, March 8 for sentencing and bail was enlarged.
