Cop allegedly hacked personal details of Laura Geitz

A GOLD Coast police officer is facing computer hacking charges after allegedly using a police database to browse through the personal details of netball star Laura Geitz, the Courier Mail reports.

Ms Geitz is alleged to be one of more than a dozen people whose personal files were accessed by Broadbeach officer Stephen Patrick Wright on the Queensland Police Service QPRIME computer database.

He is accused of accessing the database without consent on 80 different occasions between April and October last year.

The figure of 80 times has been disputed by Mr Wright's lawyer Calvin Gnech.

In June last year a serving Sergeant from the Brisbane Region was charged for alleged unauthorised use of the Queensland Police Service QPRIME database system following a Crime and Corruption Commission investigation.

Ms Geitz is yet to publicly comment on the revelations but is thought to be aware of the charges.

Born in Allora, Ms Geitz has been the captain of the Australian national team.
