AN AUSTRALIAN championship win in endurance riding has secured Freestone rider Cora Becker the Daily News/Warwick Credit Union Senior Sports Star of the Year Award.

Becker won the award last night at the Warwick RSL Memorial Club after winning the FEI 160km Australian National Championships at the Al Reef and RM Williams Endurance Festival Ride.

She won in eight hours, 46.34 minutes on a course at Toorbul near Caboolture just in front of the runner-up from Victoria.

The win was secured on her horse Bones the Wizard.

Such was the success of the event in which Becker won the endurance ride, it was named the event of the year at the Equestrian Australia Sport Achievement Awards in Sydney last month.

Redbacks Australian Rules captain Brendan Iles was named the inaugural winner of the Warwick RSL Memorial Club "Club Person of the Year" award.

He became only the second person to win a third Holman Medal for fairest and best in the Darling Downs competition.

Iles led the Redbacks to a grand final and assists with the club juniors, helps out at working bees and is a driving force behind Community Connect which encourages people with disabilities becoming involved with sport.

Last night's dinner was attended by a crowd of 130.

Brisbane Broncos board member and World University Games equestrian gold medallist Katie Bickford was guest speaker and assisted Warwick Credit Union CEO Lewis von Stieglitz in presenting trophies to all 11 monthly winners.
