Council dips out of expo

COUNCILLORS yesterday decided the Southern Downs Regional Council would not set up a stand at this year’s Country and Regional Living Expo.

This is despite taking a stand to Brisbane last year, along with staff, councillors and key community stakeholders to promote the region.

The Country and Regional Living Expo is held each year at the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre and “allows Brisbane residents to walk Queensland in a day, experiencing the tastes, sounds and tempting offers from the country and regional businesses, communities and organisations represented at the expo”.

The decision to not participate in the 2010 expo was made in a confidential session and based on a report from the economic development unit.

Last year the stand at the expo was upgraded and took on a whole new look.

Mayor Ron Bellingham was unavailable yesterday for comment on the decision.
