Council engages Urban Art Projects

THE Southern Downs Regional Council has engaged public art specialists Urban Art Projects to develop a concept plan for a “Big Thermometer” for Stanthorpe.

A council spokeswoman said it would be a “significant art project that celebrates the Stanthorpe climate, culture and identity” and had been mooted in the past.

“The Big Thermometer has been a long-term goal of the Stanthorpe community, including the Chamber of Commerce and Granite Belt Wine and Tourism,” the spokeswoman said.

“The project is also listed as a catalyst project in Tourism Queensland’s Tourism Opportunities Plan.

“Part of this process is engaging the community for opinions on what elements of our town are important to incorporate into the art piece and a brief survey has been created to gauge opinion.”

The concept plan will be used to apply for State Government funding to complete the project.

Copies of the survey are available at the Stanthorpe Art Gallery, the Stanthorpe Visitor Information Centre or the council office or online at www.surveymonkey.com/s/publicart or a hard copy is available from
