Council faces music and foots bill

SOUTHERN Downs Regional councillors had planned to apply for Regional Arts Development funding to support workshops and a concert as part of Queensland Music Festival but will now foot the $5000.

Community services director Tony Minuti yesterday said he had received a phone call from Queensland Arts with news the application would not qualify.

"RADF funding does not support events that are already organised and in motion," he said.

"RADF is not to be used as a top-up fund and the main reason is to develop professional artists in the region. These artists are not from the region."

Councillor Neil Meiklejohn said the workshops would develop local artists.

But Mr Minuti said it still didn't meet the other guidelines.

As a result the council will foot the bill of $5000 for the workshops and concerts that will coincide with next year's Jumpers and Jazz Festival.
