Council to go viral under proposal
COUNCIL chambers could go viral with a move by the State Government set to see meetings streamed on the web.
Cr Jo McNally brought up the issue at yesterday's corporate services meeting after Minister for Local Government Paul Lucas said he was considering the measures - but Mayor Ron Bellingham was not convinced of the idea's merits.
"I fail to see that it would be of any benefit to the public who are quite welcome to come and sit in the chambers," he said.
Southern Downs Regional Council CEO Rod Ferguson said they had looked into setting up audio at the Warwick chambers and it would have cost about $20,000 three or four years ago.
It was proposed larger councils video stream meetings while smaller councils audio stream.
