Council mechanic tops regional WorldSkills competition
IT SEEMS the world is his oyster, with Southern Downs Regional Council mechanic Brodie Ellery winning the 2015 Regional WorldSkills Competition for Heavy Vehicle Mechanics.
Mr Ellery took out the gold medal and will now be invited to compete at the National World Skills Competition in Melbourne next year.
Southern Downs Mayor Peter Blundell said he was extremely proud of Mr Ellery's achievements.
"At the time of competing, Brodie was in the throes of finishing his apprenticeship as a diesel fitter with council and has since taken up a mechanic's role," he said..
"Brodie's gold medal is a credit to his commitment and dedication to his trade, and on behalf of council I would like to congratulate him.
"We will certainly look forward to hearing how he goes next year in Melbourne, and he will no doubt be a great ambassador for the Southern Downs on the national stage."
Mr Ellery said he was proud and shocked with the win. "I'm excited to get the opportunity to go to the national competition to see and experience the standard of other apprentices from across Australia and I've always wanted to go to Melbourne to see the big city," he said.
The heavy vehicle mechanics regional competition, held at the Warwick campus of TAFE Queensland South West, included five entrants from across the region.
