FARMERS and rural land holders are encouraged to take part in the Southern Downs Regional Council's co-ordinated 1080 baiting for wild dogs, foxes and feral pigs through November.

Councillor Cameron Gow said co-ordinated baiting, along with trapping and shooting, was the best way to reduce pest numbers.

"Wild dogs, foxes and feral pigs destroy our region's natural environment and pose a threat to crops and livestock, with wild dogs estimated to cost the Queensland livestock industry $67 million annually,” he said.

Landholders who bait must notify their neighbours 72 hours in advance, supply their own baiting material, provide recent rates notices for the land they plan to bait and follow the state toxin guides.

There are no aerial baits dropped during this round.
