OPINION: Council unites ahead of big budget talks
IT'S no secret there has been some divisions within the Southern Downs Regional Council.
Like any organisation there is bound to be differences of opinion and amongst our elected representatives there has been plenty in the lead-up to the budget.
With a big budget roadblock standing in their path, the majority of our councillors have united in their opinions and backed the budget and the CEO.
While the strength and unity is there, there is no guarantee the united front will be a sure thing come Thursday.
Differences of opinion are sure to raise their head and there is a chance the budget may not get enough votes to be passed.
What is important for the region during this time is for every councillor to take a stand for what they believe is the best outcome for ratepayers and find some common ground to move forward towards a positive future.
There's no doubt election time is around the corner and in the coming months we'll be bringing you information on where your councillors stand on the big issues facing the town.
Tough times lay ahead and it's important as our councillors consider the budget papers in the coming days, that they weigh up what burden ratepayers can reasonably afford to bear.
