Southern Downs councillors to vote on 2% pay rise

SOUTHERN Downs councillors will vote on whether to accept a 2% pay rise for the next financial year at a meeting in Warwick tomorrow.

The 2% pay rise for mayors, deputy mayors and councillors was determined by the Local Government Remuneration and Discipline Tribunal.

The pay rise would come into effect from July 1, 2016.

Councillors can chose to vote in the increase or redirect the funds to other areas of the budget.

Southern Downs councillors voted down a 2.3% pay rise in June.

A 2% pay rise would see the Mayor earn $122,631 per year.

The Deputy Mayor would earn $76,644, while councillors would each be paid $65,147 per year.
