Councils a drag...

AFTER being part of a celebrity race at Powerfest at the Warwick Dragway on Sunday, Southern Downs Regional Councillor Ross Bartley was looking into his crystal ball.

“If we could get a ¼ mile (currently 1/8) strip in Warwick, this place would boom,” Cr Bartley said.

“Clubs that do a lot for the community through sport need to be fostered.”

Away from the politics, Cr Bartley lost out 2-1 in head-to-head clashes with CFM radio personality Ryan “Burgo” Burgess.

The two drove demonstration vehicles from Peter Stewart Ford to help promote the sport and thank the club sponsors.

“This ute would leave an old V8 for dead,” Cr Bartley said.

In one race, both had a reaction time of .615 which is deemed ideal.

Times for the 1/8 mile (200 metres) were about 10 seconds for each driver.

While Cr Bartley has been in a previous celebrity race, it was a first organised one Burgess had been involved in.

The drag strip is not foreign to Cr Bartley, he often watches his son Jarrid compete.
