THE Killarney Cup is getting an exciting makeover this year, giving patrons another reason to trot down to the racetrack this February.

The race day will have a Blues, Brews and BBQs theme, flaunting the talent of Australian Blues and Roots legend, 8 Ball Aitken.

Warwick Turf Club committee member Nick Inmon said he was thrilled 8 Ball was able to headline the event.

"It was a major scoop for the turf club to get 8 Ball," Mr Inmon said.

He said he had seen him perform at previous events and could not believe Warwick was going to get their own slice of 8 Ball.

"I saw him play at Bluesfest in Byron Bay a few years ago and the Steve Ray Vaughan song he did with Troy Cassar-Daley at last year's Tamworth Music Festival was one of the best I have ever heard," Mr Inmon said.

"It was by sheer fluke he was travelling through the area between gigs on Friday and Sunday and he agreed to do it."

The event will kick off earlier than previous years, ensuring there is plenty of time for patrons to get their groove on before the sun goes down.

There is a five-race card for the day and gates open at 11am with the last race finishing about 3.30pm - then the music starts.

Thirst will not be a problem throughout the day, with buckets of premium beer and cans of Bacardi available at a reduced price.

There will be free tastings and giveaways from James Squires, Lion Nathan Fine Wine partners and Bacardi.

Carey Bros will be supplying their award-winning gourmet sausage sandwiches to ensure no patron is left unsatisfied, and rib fillet burgers will also be available.

Event organisers said to prepare for a great day.

"The event will have a festival ambience so bring you hats, your chairs and your dancing shoes to listen to real blues on the Southern Downs," Mr Inmon said.

"Chill out with live music from Australian blues legend 8 Ball Aitken, a bucket of cold beer and a gourmet burger in hand as the nags thunder past.

"It doesn't get much better than that," he said.

The Killarney Cup Blues, Brews and BBQs Race Day will be held on February 4 at Allman Park in Warwick.

The event is proudly sponsored by the Killarney Hotel, Warwick Credit Union, Wickham Farms, Killarney Co-op and the Warwick Daily News.

The thoroughbreds are chomping at the bit so frock-up ladies and suit up gents. This year's Killarney Cup will be a race day party like no other.
