Courageous effort by Redbacks in narrow loss

AUSSIE RULES: Warwick Redbacks coach Peter Millard used the word “fantastic” to describe the effort of his team in Saturday’s three-point loss to Dalby Swans at Warwick Credit Union Oval.

The Redbacks led late in the final quarter but Dalby kicked the last goal of the match to win.

Millard said it was disappointing for the boys to go down narrowly.

“We had 20 players, Braeden Mann played under-16 footy and then in the senior team,” Millard said.

“He had a great game at centre half-forward.”

Brendan Iles played for the Redbacks after going in the Pentath-run half marathon on Saturday morning.

Millard said Iles had a great game.

“You could tell at the end of the game he was a bit tired in the legs,” Millard said.

“Tony Chandler was strong in defence for Warwick.”

Kris Millard kicked four majors for the day.

The ladies game was not played when Coolaroo could not field players in a joint team with Warwick.

Dalby has a strong ladies’ team in this season’s Darling Downs competition.
