Attempted murder accused had PI tail girlfriend: court

A MAN accused of shooting his former girlfriend's new partner allegedly hired a private investigator to follow the woman from the Gold Coast to Ipswich and Toowoomba.

Robert Kingsley Corowa, 34, is on trial in Brisbane Supreme Court having been charged with attempted murder.

At the first day of his trial on Wednesday, a jury was told that they would hear evidence that Mr Corowa was allegedly a possessive and jealous man.

Crown prosecutor Philip McCarthy said Mr Corowa is accused of shooting Marko Marjanovic in the shoulder outside a Gold Coast home on November 26, 2011.

Mr Marjanovic was at his mother's house and had been driven there by his girlfriend, and Mr Corowa's former partner, Louise Ray.

Ms Ray had picked up Mr Marjanovic from Toowoomba after he had been working near Roma, the court heard.

Mr McCarthy told the court Mr Corowa and a private investigator had allegedly followed Ms Ray from the Gold Coast to Ipswich and Toowoomba earlier that day, and continued following her car as she drove back to the Gold Coast with Mr Marjanovic.

She and Mr Corowa had split in 2010 but Mr McCarthy told the jury that Mr Corowa wanted to continue the relationship.

After Mr Marjanovic and Ms Ray arrived at the Gold Coast home, Mr McCarthy said the neighbourhood was quiet.

But then it is alleged there was a knock at the door and a man - who was allegedly Mr Corowa's associate - told Mr Marjanovic's mother that someone had been interfering with their car's tyres.

Mr Marjanovic went out to investigate and was allegedly shot at.

Mr McCarthy said Mr Marjanovic was shot at about three times and the last shot hit his shoulder as he ran inside.

He was taken to hospital.

"Marko Marjanovic will not tell you who shot him," Mr McCarthy told the jury. "He simply doesn't know. He will describe to you … he was confronted by a tall man with a gun who fired upon him."
