RUGBY LEAGUE: When a team is heading towards an 80-0 victory, you don't expect massive excitement after each try.

But it was different for the Warwick Cowboys under-18 side when Billy Upton ran 15 metres for his first four-pointer for his new club.

The bench was up, the players reacted like they had levelled the score - it was just they all wanted their teammate to score a try.

Upton moved to Warwick when his father secured a job in the town and said it was pretty exciting to score a try.

"I come off the bench for the Cowboys with about 15 minutes to go in the first half each week,” he said.

Prior to moving to Warwick, the year 11 Assumption College student played for Rockhampton Brothers at under-16 level.

"I love running the ball,” he said.

"I have been within a couple of metres of a try twice this season and really wanted to score.”

Now he has his try, he is looking forward to the rest of the footy season and some finals footy.

"I reckon we can beat them all,” Upton said.

If Warwick does beat them all, it will be one win better than last season when Warwick went down 20-12 in the TRL U18 grand final.

The score might have been a small cricket score against Oakey but the word from coach Matt Grew and his support staff on the bench was to keep their line intact and they achieved it.

Warwick has a bye this weekend and has tough games against Valleys in Toowoomba on July 30 and Highfields in Warwick on August 6.

In the U18s, Warwick can't miss the top six but can finish as high as second which would give the team two chances in the finals series.

All Warwick teams are chances for top-six spots but no one can underestimate the tough games to come.
