Cowboys battle for ladder position at halfway point

RUGBY LEAGUE:

It's crunch time for the Warwick Cowboys Rugby League Club at the halfway point of the 2018 TRL season with all four teams in the middle of the points standings.

The Cowboys take on Oakey Bears at Father Ranger Oval in Warwick this afternoon.

The Oakey A-grade side includes former NRL forward Mark Tookey.

Club president Dave O'Leary said all Cowboys sides had a decent shot at playing finals football.

"Our A-grade boys probably need to win their next two games,” he said.

"With a pretty tough run home, they'll be wanting to make reaching the finals as easy as possible.

"If we can do that then we'll maintain a handy four-point buffer between us and the teams below.”

O'Leary said finding consistency was key.

"Every team will want to see completion rates improving and mistakes disappearing,” he said.

"C grade are pretty well placed and will want to consolidate on that this weekend.

"Reserves need to win, their ladder is pretty congested and they're about six points out of the top five.

"The under-18 boys have had a tough run with injuries but they're starting to find their feet and are not far out of it, but they'll be very keen to start winning more than they lose from this point.”

The games kick off with C grade from 2.10pm, U18s from 3.30pm, reserve grade from 5pm and A grade from 6.30pm.

O'Leary said he wanted every Cowboys supporter to make it to the venue to support the team.

"Come down, be involved and get vocal,” he said.

"Let them know we're all behind them.”
