Cowboys coach wants players down at training tonight

RUGBY LEAGUE: "Come down to training, the opportunities are there to play A grade,” Cowboys coach Craig Mullaly said as training hots up for the start of the season a month from Saturday.

The Cowboys have their first trial game against Aspley at Father Ranger Oval on February 18.

"Put the effort in and push for A grade,” he said.

After making its first A-grade grand final for 17 years in 2016, the Cowboys have lost some players from its grand final team.

"We have some of last year's players still to return to training,” Mullaly said.

Three players he expects to again feature in the A-grade team are outside backs Brodie Quirk, Dan Watson and Craig Donn who all came of age as A-grade players last season.

"I think all three have the ability to play representative footy,” Mullaly said.

Quirk in fact played for the Clydesdales last season.

The major new signings so far this season are forward Darren Pettiford who returns to Cowboys colours for the first time in a decade and Killarney centre Dion Galloway who is keen to link with his brother Dylan at the Cowboys.

After the games against Aspley, Warwick will host Wattles in the Barrett Shield on March 4. Warwick is at home to Pittsworth on March 19 in a replay of last season's grand final and in the following fortnight is away to Souths on a Sunday and at home to Dalby on a Saturday night.

Training each Tuesday and Thursday at Father Ranger Oval at 6pm.
