Cowboys disappointing in loss to Valleys in TRL A grade
RUGBY LEAGUE: Warwick has gone into negative territory with two wins from five games this season after a disappointing 52-24 loss to Valleys in TRL A grade at Father Ranger Oval this afternoon.
Valleys player/coach Brett Seymour has played more than 100 NRL games and added to the attraction of Sunday afternoon footy in Warwick.
It was his first game in Warwick and he said it was a beautiful track at Father Ranger Oval and noted the Cowboys supporters had plenty of passion.
Warwick coach Craig Mullaly was disappointed with the result.
"Our defence was pretty ordinary,” Mullaly said.
"Craig Donn was our best.”
Donn came off the bench in the Warwick pack and impressed from the moment he went on to the field.
Seymour wasn't getting carried away with his side's victory.
"It is quite an achievement to score 52 points in Warwick but we leaked 24 points so there are parts of our game we have to work on,” he said.
"We have three tough matches coming up so will know after that where we are at.”
But it is so far so good with Valleys unbeaten this season in A grade.
After a quarter of the game, Valleys led 28-0 and it was a Donn intercept which gave Warwick some momentum and fullback Dylan Galloway scored a try to make the score 28-6 after a Dan Watson conversion.
In the second half, Warwick got over the line twice in the first five minutes but couldn't snare a try and it was Valleys in the 7th minute with a Mitchell Sargent try that started the second half scoring.
In the next 14 minutes, Valleys scored three more converted tries to put the game out of the reach of Warwick at 52-6. Fullback Dylan Chow scored two of the second half tries to take his match tally to three for Valleys.
Donn was prominent late in the game as Warwick scored three tries. Winger Dan Watson landed four conversions, including three from near touch. Galloway scored two tries, Donn and Watson one each.
It was a good day for kickers with Emmanual Cerei landing eight for the winners.
Seymour rated Chown, Reggie Munn and Luke Menhinnitt as the best three for Valleys.
As for Warwick, he said fullback Dylan Galloway was a class player.
"Farao Mataafa played well and Matt Marshall was hard to handle for Warwick,” he said.
In early games, Warwick won the first two games, C grade 40-16 and U18s 30-14 but Valleys were too good to win reserve grade 44-22.
