Cowboys' Graham contemplating an end to his NRL career

HE is just 28, but Cowboys winger Ashley Graham could pull the pin on his fantastic NRL career at the end of this season.

The 2011 Cowboy of the Year is off contract at the end of 2013 and is not in negotiations to extend into a 13th season.

The Cairns product recently brought up 150 matches for the club, and is closing in on both 100 tries (he has 99) and 200 games (he has played 192).

However, despite being one of the Cowboys' most consistent players, continuing problems with arthritis in his ankle look to be the deciding factors on whether he will play on.

"I'm just concentrating on playing this season. I'm just taking each game as it is and enjoying it," he said.

Graham has interests outside of football - he made the 2012 NRL academic team of the year, thanks to the bachelor of sports and exercise science course he is studying at James Cook University.

He said reaching 100 tries was not something he was thinking about too much.

Only 58 players in the history of the game have reached that mark.

"Hopefully it's sooner rather than later," Graham said.
