Cowboys, Gremlins and Wattles all still in finals battles
RUGBY LEAGUE: The Warwick Cowboys showed plenty of fight before going down 28-14 to Highfields in the A-grade qualifying final in the Toowoomba Rugby League competition.
There were eight finals games on Sunday at Brothers headquarters Glenholme Park in week 1 of the finals and Warwick, Wattles and Stanthorpe will be involved in week 2 on Saturday at Glenholme Park.
Valleys won 32-20 against defending premiers Dalby in A grade.
That means minor premiers Wattles will play Valleys in the late game on the senior field on Saturday night. The game will pit two players with NRL experience head-to-head as players and coaches.
Travis Burns (Wattles) and Brett Seymour (Valleys) are the two with NRL experience.
In the A-grade minor semi final on Saturday, Dalby will play Highfields.
Wattles won 30-10 against Valleys in the reserve-grade elimination final and Gatton beat Pittsworth 24-16 in the qualifying final.
That means Wattles will play Pittsworth in the minor semi final on Saturday.
In second division, Warwick beat Pittsworth 14-12 and Stanthorpe won 20-12 against Dalby.
On Saturday, Warwick will play the major semi final against Gatton on the senior field at Glenholme Park and Stanthorpe will play the minor semi final against Pittsworth on the junior field. Warwick will get another chance if they lose but Stanthorpe must win the second-division game to stay in finals contention.
The Sunday finals game for Stanthorpe Gremlins was the club's first in Toowoomba Rugby League since the mid 1990s. The Gremlins were then part of the Border Rugby League for two decades until the league went into recess this season.
