Cowboys reserves in line for minor title

WARWICK Cowboys take on the Oakey Bears today for the last Saturday night home game at Father Ranger Oval.

The Cowboys A-grade side was hit hard by injuries and sickness last week which saw it go down to a strong Dalby outfit.

The team faces a tough run to the finals with an away game against Goondiwindi before the final round of the season against a strong Highfields team at home.

Competition for a top-four spot is tight with Dalby and Pittsworth leading the Cowboys by two competition points.

Captain-coach Matt Gainey is hopeful the team can turn things around after their loss last week and finish the season on a positive note.

"We had a setback with injuries last week," Gainey said. "As a team we need to pull together and just enjoy the remaining rounds ahead of us.

"If results come our way that's great, but the main thing is we enjoy ourselves."

The Cowboys' reserve side is in a great position on the top of the ladder with the best point differential in the league.

Gainey has been impressed with the side's efforts and hopes players can maintain their winning form to secure the minor premiership.

A top finish would hand the team a week off in the first round of finals, a handy bonus against fellow top finishers Dalby, Gatton and Wattles.

The ladies' league tag will follow the A-grade match and spectators are encouraged to stick around to support the women, who have been an exciting new addition to the competition this year.

Under 18s kick off at 2.30pm, followed by reserve grade at 3.50pm, A grade from 5pm and league tag against Scots PGC from 6.20pm.
