Cowboys win again: minor premiership beckons

RUGBY LEAGUE: Mick Bloomfield won the Hutchies Mug for player of the match as the Warwick Cowboys beat Highfields 33-4 in the TRL A-grade game at Father Ranger Oval yesterday.

After leading 6-4 midway through the first term, the Cowboys scored close to half-time to lead 10-4.

They then scored two tries in the first seven minutes of the second half for a 20-4 lead.

The Warwick dominance continued during the rest of the second half.

Forward Bloomfield scored one try and was almost unstoppable in possession and put a bit of fear into the opposition with his strong defence.

Sam Broomhall, Matt Marshall, Aaron McVeigh, Ryan McIvor and Trent Richardson scored tries and Dan Watson landed four goals for the home side.

Jaime Abbas kicked a field goal with the last play of the game from 25m.

Abbas was judged best forward and half-back Paul Cantwell was best back.

Warwick started the day with easy wins in under-18 (46-0) and reserve-grade (26-14) games.

Dustin Close scored two tries and Kai Etherington landed four goals in U18s.

Warwick has the bye in the two senior grades and the under-18 side will travel to Murgon to play South Burnett White this weekend.

A week later, Warwick will play Pittsworth at Pittsworth in what will be a top-of-the-table clash.

Warwick is now second, one win behind Pittsworth in A grade.

In the battle for the club championship, Warwick and Pittsworth are equal at the top of the table.

The games in Pittsworth will go a long way to determining the club championship winner in the Toowoomba competition.
