Cowboys win physical game
FULLBACK Hayden McNicol scored two tries and claimed the players' player award as the Warwick Cowboys beat Oakey 40-20 in A-grade rugby league on Saturday night at Father Ranger Oval.
The Cowboys were down 10-0 early before taking the lead late in the first half in a hard physical game.
McNicol said the ball stuck to his hands well on the night.
"I am playing with plenty of confidence. We are aiming at the top five and to win all games at home."
Michael O'Keefe scored three tries, centre Brock Grayson and halfback Trent Achilles one each and Achilles landed six goals.
Player of the year points went to Achilles (3), Dennis Sandow (Oakey, 2) and Garry Ellery (Warwick, 1).
Coach Gary Lawrence said his side was blown away a bit in the first 15 minutes.
"We took our opportunities as they came along," Lawrence said.
"Our side wasn't outstanding in any shape or form but it was good to get the two fixture points.
"We are a long way from saying we will be competitive against the top teams.
"It was pleasing that all three grades won at home."
Lawrence said they could accommodate extra players.
Warwick won 26-12 in reserve grade and 22-20 in U18s.
