Crafty couple loves heading to the country markets

FOR Joan and Terry Jones, packing up their motorhome with their crafty handmade items and travelling to the small country town markets is the perfect way to spend a weekend.

The Pittsworth couple started up their market business close to 18 months ago.

"We have been coming out to the Leyburn markets since it started back up," Mrs Jones said.

"We like to visit as many country towns as we can."

Together they have the perfect arrangement.

Mrs Jones makes everything from linen and crafty decorations, which at this time of the year all have a Christmas feel to them.

"I really love Christmas, especially Santas. I am a Santa-holic," Mrs Jones said.

"So at the moment everything has Santa on it. I have over 100 Santas at home."

Mr Jones takes care of the woodwork side of things, spending hours in the shed building door signs, cots for dolls and other decorations which Mrs Jones then paints.

His handmade door signs with various messages can take up to 40 hours to make.

"It all depends on the painting really," Mr Jones said.

"You can only give it one coat a day.

"I only use recycled timber and spend a lot of time in the shed at home working on creations."

Mrs Jones said it was a perfect hobby.

"We are both retired and this gives us something to do and keeps us out of mischief," she said.
