Crash victims now stable

THREE Glen Aplin residents are in a serious but stable condition in Brisbane hospitals after being involved in a horrific head on crash on the New England Hwy near Dalveen.

The crash, involving a white four-wheel-drive and a red sedan, occurred about 11am on Tuesday.

Stanthorpe police officer in charge Mark Ireland said police believed one of the drivers had veered onto the wrong side of the road for unknown reasons.

The impact of the crash flung the 36-year-old female passenger of the four-wheel- drive nine metres from the car.

Two young children also travelling in the white 4WD were remarkably unharmed in the incident.

It took firefighters close to an hour to free the driver of the red sedan, a 53-year-old woman, from her car, which overturned before landing on a fence beside the road.

A fence post narrowly missed the fuel tank.

Three rescue helicopters were called in to airlift the three patients to Brisbane hospitals.

Snr Sgt Mark Ireland said all were in a stable condition.

"They are all expected to make a full recovery," he said.

"The two women have serious injuries including multiple fractures."

Snr Sgt Ireland said it would be at least a week before it was determined whether or not any charges would be laid regarding the crash.
