Cream of the crop to challenge bulls

BEAUDESERT rider Fraser Babbington and Kyogle star David Kennedy are two of the favourites for the Adam Merrell Memorial Open Bull Ride at the Ray Bunch Machinery Cowboys Rodeo tonight.

Both have won national titles but will face tough opposition from Narangba star Jeff Moretto.

Rodeo organiser Scott Keogh said five contractors were bringing their best bulls and five top riders to Warwick.

One of the locals to watch will be Damian Clarke, who has won money at the Warwick Rodeo down the years.

"There will be plenty of interest in the local bullock ride which includes many mates of Adam Merrell," Keogh said.

After not riding a bull, bullock or steer for 14 years, Keogh will still be a chance in the open bullock ride after winning $US300,000 in saddle bronc during six years in the United States of America.

"I don't even know where my old gear is and will have to borrow some gear on the night," he said.

"Anthony Collins and Ben Ruhle will be two of the riders to beat in the bullock ride."

Many of the nominations for classes have closed but all junior entries will be accepted on the night but must be made before 6pm, including the pee wee mechanical ride for under-8 fans at 6.30pm.

The rodeo will support the fund-raising efforts of Warwick Cowboys ambassador Chantelle Cameron.
