Fire crews hope to control Girraween National Park blaze
IF THE weather was favourable overnight firefighters should have the large bushfire that has been burning in and around Girraween National Park since Tuesday well under control.
Stanthorpe Fire captain Ian Barnden said conditions had been fairly kind to them yesterday.
"We are hoping to have the fire burning within containment lines by tonight (Thursday night), and hope to have it under control by (today)," he said.
"Then it will just be a matter of letting it burn itself out."
Mr Barnden said it would take a day or two to burn out, depending on weather conditions.
Urban and rural crews from Stanthorpe and district, New South Wales and the Gold Coast were called into help fight the blaze yesterday and conduct back burning.
The water bombers were also back in action.
At 2pm yesterday afternoon the fire was burning east of Pyramids Rd, north of Mt Norman intersection and south of Parrish Lane, with no threat to any homes.
Residents are advised to call Triple Zero (000) if they believe their property is under threat.
