Criterion continues an age-old Warwick link

A HISTORICAL link spanning the course of 84 years has assisted in a local church's restoration plans.

On Monday, the Criterion Hotel presented a cheque for $1240 to St Mary's Church, continuing the special connection the two buildings have endured.

The funds will go towards the Church's continued restoration plans.

Chruch parishioner Fr Franco Filipetto said the contribution would have a positive impact for the church.

"We're very grateful to the Criterion,” Fr Filipetto said.

"The church is in the process of re-pointing and restoring light windows, and any donation is very welcome.

"Historically the church has benefited a great deal from the patronage of the Allman family, and it is good to acknowledge their contribution.

"The connection is something that came ot light last year, and it does help to recover a part of our history.

The Allman's connection with the Criterion began in 1887, and the Irish-Catholic family would remain a part of the premises for 84 years.

Their faith meant the church played a big role in their lives, with money and other gifts donated over the years.

This latest contribution from the Criterion comes with the sale of heritage books earlier in the year.
