'Nervous and evasive': Gladstone driver busted with ice

THERE was no good energy in his crystals when speeding driver Darren Hobson got caught with crystal rocks.

From jail Hobson, 34, pleaded guilty via video link before Gladstone Magistrates Court to possession of methylamphetamine (ice) on April 13; possession of a mobile phone used in a drug offence; and driving unlicensed when SPER suspended.

Police prosecutor Gavin Reece said officers saw Hobson's car driven at excessive speed in Barney Point and spoke to him at a petrol station.

"He says he was aware his licence had been suspended but thought he had sorted it out," Mr Reece said.

"He was very nervous and evasive. Police searched his car and found two crystal rocks in a tin he says was meth."

"His phone rang many times. The number was known to be a drug user."

Mr Reece said Hobson admitted he got the drug from that person.

Magistrate Mark Morrow sentenced him to four months jail and set immediate eligibility to apply for parole. His licence was disqualified for one month.
