Cuisine with a bit of quirk

A SHIP in a harbour is safe - but that's not what a ship is built for.

This is the saying that resonated with restaurateurs Jim and Katie Osborn, written on the wall of their new restaurant Bluebird Kitchen and Bar in Warwick's CBD.

The quirky couple opened their dream restaurant to the public yesterday, after months working on the old site of Top Two Motorcycles.

Mr Osborn, the head chef, said he was amazed at the support with more than 80 customers passing through the doors on opening day.

"We've been so full on getting everything finished," he said.

"We had builders here until yesterday (Tuesday) finishing things."

With a menu described as 'a modern take on North and South America', the Osborn's plan to add their little bit of quirk to the food scene in the Rose City.

"We always dreamed of something that was 100 % us," Mrs Osborn said.

"To others it may be a restaurant but for us it's everything - it's us.

"We created a space we would want to be in - a space where you can be really comfortable."

Bluebird is set to add a bit of difference with its alternative flavour, with Friday and Saturday nights set to make the restaurant a bustling place to be.

"We're putting a big focus on our night menus and looking at getting licensed," Mr Osborn said.

"We're quite happy for people to BYO, have a good time with friends and enjoy the space."
