Cunningham is second in carnival at Bony Mountain

POLOCROSSE: Northern Territory pair Steve Nolan and Sam Cook were part of the Cunningham club team which made the final of its own carnival at Bony Mountain Recreation Reserve yesterday.

The carnival was the second for the year put on by the Cunningham club.

Team captain Todd Waugh said the only losses for the Cunningham 1 team at the weekend were to Tansey 1 in a round game and the final.

Cunningham beat Gold Coast in one semi final and Tansey beat Warwick in the other.

The appearance in the open Afinal was the first for Cunningham at its own carnival for three years.

Earlier this season, Cunningham also made the final of the Guyra competition in A grade where they went down by one goal to Tansey.

Waugh said he was glad the players from the Northern Territory chose to play for Cunningham.

"They wanted to play against teams like Tansey,” Waugh said.

Cook and Nolan will be back to play for Cunningham at the Gold Coast carnival at Killarney this weekend.

The following week, Nolan will play in an national intra-squad weekend at Morgan Park as part of the IOR Petroleum Rose Bowl.

Cunningham 1 won junior A and Cunningham B won junior B at the weekend carnival which attracted 40 teams.

Southern Downs winners of best player awards at the weekend were Heath Wilson (Killarney) in F grade, junior A best horse and rider Terry Butcher and junior B best horse and rider Billie Craninckx.

The Nellie Gilbert Memorial award for a Cunningham player went to Teagan Lamb.
