Cunningham star Lauren Cant in Australian outfit

CUNNINGHAM Polocrosse Club player Lauren Cant has been selected in the Australian squad for the 2015 World Cup in South Africa.

Cant played for the winning Western Australia women's team at the nationals last month in Darwin but now lives in Queensland.

She has played for Cunningham in carnivals at Goondiwindi and Killarney and is set to play in her club's carnival this weekend at the Bony Mountain Recreation Reserve.

She is one of three players with a Queensland connection in the team.

World Cup squad members Trent Collins and Beau Moore from the Tansey club have been part of a men's team which has played many close matches at Warwick, Cunningham and Killarney.

The squad of 14 will be reduced to eight later this year.

In Western Australia in October, the seven women in the squad will play against New Zealand in two Tests which will double as a selection trial for World Cup spots.

The team includes five women from the champion Western Australian team - Jane Cooper, Kristy Crook, Elizabeth Lyster, Suzette Thomas and Cant.

Cooper and Thomas have both played World Cup polocrosse and Crook has played Test polocrosse and won the best female player award at the nationals in Darwin in July.

The men will play in a carnival at Gulgong (NSW) on August 23-24 when coach Troy Henry will trial players on unfamiliar horses.
