Cunningham's Gap to stay open

UPDATE 1.30PM: A PLANNED closure of the Cunningham Highway at Cunningham's Gap tonight to allow movement of an extra-wide load has been postponed.

A Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR) spokeswoman said they had been advised by the transporter of the oversized load that due to "unforeseen circumstances" it cannot be transported through the Gap tonight.

The load has been stranded for several days at the Fisher Park Truck Stop and is destined for the Canadian nickel industry, via the Port of Brisbane.

The Gap was to have been closed to all other traffic between 9.30pm tonight and 4am between the Fisher Park Truck Stop and Lake Moogerah Rd east of the Gap.

The TMR spokeswoman said the department would continue to work with Queensland Police Service and the transporter to move the load as safely and as quickly as possible.

No timeframe has yet been given.

A second load is planned to travel through the Gap at a later date once the first load has been delivered successfully
