Cup challenge on at the Warwick drags
IT is that time of the year again, with the Whoop Ass Cup between Warwick and Toowoomba in drag racing to be held tomorrow.
Warwick has been clearly dominant down the years but granny Lyn Stewart puts her allegiances to her club, the Warwick District Drag Racing Association, away for one day a year, in quest of a little white cup.
Stewart lives at Athol, 20km south of Toowoomba on the Pittsworth road, and has been part of winning and losing Toowoomba teams.
She always promises to field a top Toowoomba team each year and 2014 should be no exception.
The Warwick team will be boosted this year by young gun Matt Loy, who is in his first year in a rail after a successful junior career.
The cup will only be part of the day for Loy, who has a class championship to win in this club as well. Tomorrow's event is round five of the track championships.
Anyone keen to try the sport for the first time should head to the drags with a car, registered or unregistered, helmet and appropriate clothing, get a bit of instruction and have a go. Gates at Morgan Park open at noon tomorrow, with scrutineering from 1pm, qualifying from 3-6.30pm and racing from 7pm.
Admission is $10 adults with under-13s free.
This meeting will be the last for the year.
