Cup steeped in history

DID you know our very own Warwick Cup is older than the Melbourne Cup?

How about the fact the Warwick Turf Club is one of Queensland's original turf clubs, established in 1858 by a Special Act of Parliament?

While Turf Club president Garry Adcock has been involved in the Warwick Cup for only 15 of the 149 years, he is gearing up for what promises to be a great day out at the track next weekend.

This year the Cup celebrates 149 years running, alongside the 149th Melbourne Cup - due to two local cups not running during the war years as well as the equine influenza outbreak in 2007, Melbourne has caught up to us.

The 2009 Warwick Cup has proven to be popular, with most of the marquee spots booked out.

There are still spots left in the Girls Night In pink marquee, however, with funds raised in the marquee and a portion of the racecourse admission price helping fight women's cancers.
