Volunteers offer a nice hot cuppa and a break

FLOODS forced them to shut their doors early last school holidays but the volunteers at the Gladfield Driver Reviver will be serving hot coffee again next week.

The crew will work around the clock from next Thursday, March 28 until 6pm March 1, serving tea, coffee, Milo and snacks to motorists travelling through the area.

Roster co-ordinator Peter Hardwick said the invaluable service was one of only a few that operated 24 hours a day.

He said there was always a need for some more friendly faces to man the driver reviver and said it was something he loved to do.

"I actually manned one of the first ever shifts when it started in 1991," he said.

"I enjoy it because I get to meet different people from all different places and countries.

"We have always done well with volunteers because, like me, they can see the benefits of keeping the road toll down."

The driver reviver will also open for all public holiday periods this year.

Anybody interested in volunteering can phone Peter Hardwick on 0419 173 709 or 4661 8637.
