Cushion program takes off
THE love and support offered to breast cancer patients and survivors by the Zonta Club of Warwick has gone international with Sri Lankan Zonta Club II Colombo joining the cause and picking up the breast cancer cushion program.
After taking the Facebook plunge the two groups connected when the Colombo club spotted a post containing the January 13 article printed by the Daily News.
Project co-ordinator Mary Goyne said it was wonderful and exciting when Colombo member Ganga De Zilwa expressed interest in the program.
"It was around the middle to end of January that we first heard from Ganga," Mrs Goyne said.
"We then arranged for permission with the Botany Bay Zonta Club, who started the cushion program, to have a pattern and information sent over.
"I actually rang Ganga (on Monday) and she said she was going to present the pattern and information package to her members at their meeting that day.
"If they decide to take on the project they will supply a cancer hospital in Colombo.
"It is part of the Zonta theme to promote the health and equality of women worldwide."
Since May last year the Warwick ladies have sent about 200 breast cushions to several hospitals in the Darling Downs and Brisbane areas.
"It is great to hear all the wonderful feedback from the breast care nurses who say it is something positive for their patients" Mrs Goyne said.
