'Custodians' honoured for dedicated service
IT STANDS tall in the rolling hills that is Glengallan.
Its sandstone facade is enough to fascinate all who pass, and for the volunteers who keep Glengallan Homestead up and running, it's almost a second home.
Volunteers Elizabeth Gray and Dorothy Gartery are just two of the many who dedicate their time and efforts to the homestead and last week their contributions were recognised.
Mrs Gray and Mrs Gartery have been given honorary life membership of the Homestead Trust.
"It's nice to know you have been recognised," Mrs Gartery said.
Having been a part of the Homestead volunteer committee for 10 years, she said it was the fascinating people and history learnt along the way that kept her coming back.
Mrs Gray, whose great grandparents worked as shepherds at Glengallan all those years ago, said it was her family ties that piqued her interest in the first place.
"It's all about knowing our local history and it's the enjoyment we get from it all," Mrs Gray said.
Greg Roulston, of Roulston Builders, was also awarded life membership for all his hard work during the renovations.
